Bleach as a Disinfectant – When and How We Use It

How we use diluted bleach safely and effectively in the salon.

Unscented household bleach (at least 5.25% sodium hypochlorite) can be an effective disinfectant when diluted correctly (usually 1 part bleach to 10 parts water).

It is strong against many germs, including bloodborne pathogens.

However, it can rust metal tools if left too long, and the fumes can irritate. We use it carefully, only when appropriate, and always rinse tools thoroughly afterwards.
